Our origin is in Madrid, where the siblings Alfredo, Enrique, Luis and Carolina Mahou Solana establish the company "Hijos de Casimiro Mahou", dedicated to the production of beer and ice.
On the 1st February 1891, the brewing of beer begins at the production centre in Amaniel Street in Madrid; construction had taken just over a year. The technology used then was mostly of German origin
Mahou beer received international recognition for their quality, with the Gold Medal for Excellence in the industry convention of Brussels
Straw cases were subtituted by wooden boxes, a ground-breaking innovation at the time
New bottles and the first crown caps, a model that was innovative in that time and now standardized
After the difficult post-war years, Mahou experienced a spectacular revival and in 1957 it became a public limited company under the current name of Mahou, S.A.
The Amaniel brewery could not meet the growing demand so construction of a new production centre begins in the Paseo Imperial, in what was then the outskirts of Madrid. The old brewery stops activities three years later.
On the 15th May, 1962 – feast day of Saint Isidore, the farmer - the first batch of beer is brewed at the new factory. Designed to produce 500,000 hectolitres annually, it was already producing one million by 1970. The ¨Botijo¨bottle entered the market and became an icon of the Mahou brand.
The installation of modern beer dispensing and refrigeration systems increases the sales of draft beer. It is worth noting here that Mahou was the first Spanish company to introduce aluminium barrels, replacing wooden ones.
In order to satisfy the most discerning palates, Mahou Cinco Estrellas, our flagship brand, is launched. A high quality and extremely popular product, characterised by its aroma and character.
Mahou´s alcohol-free beer , Laiker, entered the market to bring the utmost quality to consumers looking for non-alcoholic beer.
Welcome to Alovera Brewery Inauguration of Alovera ( Guadalajara) production centre which, at the time, was the centre with the greatest capacity of Europe.
Mahou acquires San Miguel, a company that was founded in Manila in 1890 and which had been established in Spain since 1957. Thus the first 100% Spanish owned beer company is created: Mahou San Miguel.
Our expansion continued, with the acquition of Cervezas Anaga and their Cananary Island brand, Reina.
Cervezas Alhambra becomes part of our company. That same year, all our breweries are certified with the EMAS environmental certification.
Solán de Cabras joins our company, strengthening our beverage portfolio with its brand of water and soft drinks.
We reach a joint venture agreement with India's Arian Breweries & Distilleries Pvt. Ltd
We strengthened our commitment to our community by creating Mahou San Miguel Foundation to channel the social actions that have always defined our company.
Mahou San Miguel establishes its first subsidiary outside Spain with the acquisition of 100% of Arian Breweries & Distilleries Pvt. Ltd. in India.
Arian Breweries & Distilleries Pvt. Ltd. becomes Mahou India Pvt. Ltd.
Dare Devil is re-launched with its new image and the first Mahou 5 Star and Mahou Clásica are produced in our factory in Bhiwadi, Rajasthan.
Launch of Dare Devil Royal Export in Rajasthan & Haryana.
The first Belgium style wheat beer produced by Mahou Group.
